Here’s something I bet you didn’t know about award-winning author Melanie Crowder: Many years ago, as a young person, she attended wildland fire school. Little did she know that several decades later, this experience would be the inspiration spark (so to speak!) for an incredible and powerful YA novel.
Fun fact: Smokejumpers are specially trained firefighters who are helicoptered to the site of remote wildland fires and parachute in to help with the firefighting response. Intense, right? So now, here’s that deal announcement you’ve been waiting for:
Liza Kaplan at Philomel has acquired Melanie Crowder’s next YA novel, Jumper, about a girl who spends the summer as one of the first teenage smokejumpers since the 1950s, until a catastrophic fire spirals out of control--with disastrous consequences. Ammi-Joan Paquette at Erin Murphy Literary Agency did the deal for World rights. Publication is slated for spring 2022.
I would be remiss if I did not take this most excellent opportunity to say: Congrats, Melanie… you are ON FIRE! :D
