Not THOSE Wild Things (those belong to Sendak)! If you follow Deborah Underwood on social media at all, you are aware of her love of animals and nature, and of her chronicling of sightings of, and visits by, birds and other wild creatures to the Bay Area gardens and preserves she loves to visit, as well as her apartment in the city.
Deborah has always been one to write from the heart and explore the meaning of her own experiences, so it won’t be a surprise to hear that she’s written a picture book text about befriending wild things, and how difficult it is to walk a line and not pull them away from where they belong—in nature.
LOVING WILD THINGS has been signed by Laura Godwin at Godwin books (publisher of several of Deborah’s books, including last year’s FINDING KINDNESS and this winter's DUCKS! Deborah has been fortunate to be matched with a lot of incredible illustrators, and this book is no exception. Laura matched the project with illustrator Kenard Pak (another Bay Area person!). Ken is much in demand, so we’re going to have to wait a bit for this one—but spring 2024 will be here before we know it!
