When Kersten Hamilton reached out to me about representation, it had a touch of kismet about it, as I was right in the middle of reading her debut novel, TYGER TYGER, and loving it. (It is the first book of the Goblin Wars series—the second, IN THE FORESTS OF THE NIGHT, will be out in November—and her first foray into YA fiction after many successful picture books, chapter books, and middle-grade books.) It also felt like kismet that the project she came to me with, that was ready to go out to editors, was right up my alley: a light steampunk chapter book set on the eve of the (fictional) Great Mesmer War of 1901, featuring a boy inventor, President Teddy Roosevelt, evil hypnotists, robots, a lightning harvester, and a dashingly brave and loyal dachsund named Noodles (who is the anchor and narrator of the whole thing). Exactly the kind of thing reluctant boy readers will gobble up—and girls will love it, too!
So I am very pleased to announce that Kersten's editor for the Goblin Wars books, Lynne Polvino of Clarion, has just acquired THE MESMER MENACE. Kersten and Lynne are a great match, and I am happy to be a part of their work. Congratulations, Kersten!
