Clare B. Dunkle is an award-winning author of seven acclaimed fantasy and science fiction novels, including The Hollow Kingdom Trilogy. The first trilogy book won the 2004 Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Children’s Literature. But she is proudest of the two memoirs she wrote in cooperation with her daughter, Elena, about Elena’s adolescent eating disorder. Elena Vanishing and Hope and Other Luxuries have helped many eating disorder victims and their families understand one another better as they work to conquer this deadly condition.
A Texan (and former Texas librarian), Clare lived in Germany with her husband, Joe, and their two daughters for eleven years, and she loves that country and its people dearly. Her daughters still consider it their home. Clare and Joe now live in the pine forests of northern Georgia, a region that comforts their homesickness for the pine forests of the Rheinland-Pfalz, close to their daughters and grandchildren, who keep them quite busy. In her spare time, Clare loves playing massive open-world games on her PS5 and is proud of her platinum trophies, especially the one for Horizon Zero Dawn, which is still a favorite. She also studies Korean so she can sing along to all her favorite kpop and kdrama OST songs. And so should you! 파이팅!
