Debbie A. Taylor

Debbie Taylor resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Her most recent book, Over in Motown (Fifth Avenue Press 2021) is a Junior Library Guild Selection. Step It Up, French Dukes (Fifth Avenue Press 2022) is set for November 2023. Her first picture book, Sweet Music in Harlem (Lee and Low 2004) was inspired by Art Kane’s famous 1958 photograph of jazz musicians. Taylor also wrote a series of education books for Ventris Learning, Inc.

Her short stories for children appear in magazines including Cricket, Spider, New Moon and Pockets. Her writing themes include the value of family and the importance of community. Debbie is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. She holds degrees from Cleveland State University. Case Western Reserve University and Ohio Dominican College. Recent honors include designation as a Writer of Ypsilanti 2021 and a member of the 2021 cohort of Amplify Black Voices for the Highlights Foundation.
