Hayley Barrett writes for young people, but in order to do that, she writes for illustrators too. She loves to choose and combine words that will spark an illustrator’s enthusiasm and invite their creativity. The result, when all goes well, is a scrumptious stir-up of the textual and the visual that draws readers to open a book and enjoy it again and again.
So far, Hayley is the author of Babymoon, illustrated by Juana Martinez-Neal, What Miss Mitchell Saw, illustrated by Diana Sudyka, Girl Versus Squirrel, illustrated by Renée Andriani, and The Tiny Baker, illustrated by Alison Jay. Hayley lives outside of Boston with her bouncy Havanese sidekick Quill. They also spend lots of time writing, reading, and kayaking on Maine’s tranquil Moose Pond and enjoying family togetherness both there and at home.
Open to work for hire and IP work in board books, picture book fiction and picture book nonfiction, and middle grade fiction.
