Kara LaReau was born and raised in Connecticut. She worked as an editor at Candlewick Press and at Scholastic Press, and now works as a freelance editor and copywriter. Kara is the author of picture books such as Ugly Fish, illustrated by Scott Magoon, and Baby Clown, illustrated by Matthew Cordell; an award-winning chapter book series called The Infamous Ratsos, illustrated by Matt Myers; a middle grade trilogy called The Unintentional Adventures of the Bland Sisters, illustrated by Jen Hill; and a middle grade trilogy called the ZomBert Chronicles, illustrated by Ryan Andrews. Kara lives in Providence, Rhode Island with her husband and child and their cats.

Special interests in animals, bullying, community, courage, emotions, fairy tales, family, food, friendships, ghosts (and anything spooky or scary), holidays, manners, mysteries, non-conformity, redefining gender roles, and school.
