At long last, I'm so excited to announce the sale of Melissa Stewart's latest book, SEASHELLS: NOT JUST FOR SHELTER. This lovely followup to FEATHERS: NOT JUST FOR FLYING will give us another book of Melissa's beautiful text combined with Sarah Brannen's gorgeous illustrations. I have a very special affinity for seashells myself, so I'm very excited about this one. ;)
Julie Bliven at Charlesbridge has bought world rights to the nonfiction picture book Seashells: Not Just for Shelter, written by Melissa Stewart (l.) and illustrated by Sarah Brannen. It will explore the different ways seashells use their hard exterior for protection, feeding, stabilization, and more. Publication is scheduled for summer 2018. Tricia Lawrence at Erin Murphy Literary represented the author and Steven Chudney of the Chudney Agency represented the illustrator.
Join me in congratulating Melissa! Congratulations!
She's done it again—that Deborah Underwood is a force of nature! Her latest picture book deal is for a book called OGILVY, inspired by an adorable sweater-clad bunny created by illustrator T.L. McBeth (represented by Kirsten Hall of Catbird Productions). The story is about a bunny named Ogilvy who may be wearing a sweater—or is it a dress?—and won't be limited by other bunnies' perceptions.
Laura Godwin at the brand-new Godwin Books imprint at Macmillan has signed it up, and also signed McBeth to illustrate Deborah's previously announced DUCKS! What a team! We should see these books hitting shelves in 2019. (Oh, the agony of waiting!)
It's a very good day indeed when you get to share excellent news that's been under wraps for a long time. And that's exactly the sort of day it is today! Mike Jung is the author of the super-spectacular middle-grade sf adventure, GEEKS, GIRLS, AND SECRET IDENTITIES, and out-of-this-world contemporary middle-grade, UNIDENTIFIED SUBURBAN OBJECT. (Side note: If you haven't read USO yet, it's got an amazing a twist you will not see coming, that will blow your mind!)
But there's MORE: Today I'm happy to announce that contracts have been signed for a third book to come! Here's the official deal announcement:
Equal parts humorous and heartwarming, with all the rich resonance you'd expect from a Mike Jung book, this is one you won't want to miss.
Huge congratulations, Mike!
Wonderful news - the first review for Ibi Zoboi's AMERICAN STREET is in, and it's a starred review from Kirkus! "Filling her pages with magic, humanity, tragedy, and hope, Zoboi builds up, takes apart, and then rebuilds an unforgettable story. This book will take root in readers' hearts."
Huge congratulations, Ibi! We cannot wait for the release of AMERICAN STREET in February!
It's a wonderful day when you get to announce an author's debut deal—and all the more so when it's a deal as wonderful as this one! Anna Redding is a non-fiction whiz, with projects in the works that range across a wide variety of topics and age groups. (Spoiler alert: There may be more good news on the near horizon from Anna!)
This book is a particularly exciting one, however: A history of Google, from the time of its creation, through the vast role it now plays in our lives, and even going so far as peeking into the near future to see what kinds of things might lie just around the corner. As an Emmy Award-winning TV journalist in her former life, I can't think of a better person to tackle this exciting and exhaustive subject—and, as you'll see for yourself, it makes for an unputdownable read
I'm thrilled to say that the middle-grade non-fiction book GOOGLE IT! was acquired by Holly West at Feiwel and Friends, and will whirl onto bookshelves everywhere in summer 2018.
Huge congrats, Anna!
