Anna Crowley Redding

When it comes to non-fiction, Anna Crowley Redding is one of the most versatile authors out there—whether she’s diving deep into techy biographies like GOOGLE IT or ELON MUSK: ON A MISSION TO SAVE THE WORLD; exploring the cutting-edge science of the present and the future in her forthcoming BLACK HOLE CHASERS; or telling playful historical anecdotes in the picture books SAVING THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE and CHOWDER RULES!

And today, we get to see yet another side of Anna’s non-fiction: an inspiring true story of a little-known hero. And what else? A KID hero! Yes, indeed, we are going all the way back to the 1800s for this exciting new project. And here is the deal announcement for your perusal pleasure:

Ann Kelley at Random House Studio has bought world rights to Courage Like Kate: The True Story of a Little Girl Lighthouse Keeper by Anna Crowley Redding (l) and illustrated by Emily Sutton. This picture book biography recounts the life of Kate Moore, a twelve-year-old lighthouse-keeper, who, in the 1800s, saved the lives of twenty-three sailors. Publication is slated for summer 2022; Ammi-Joan Paquette at Erin Murphy Literary Agency represented the author; the illustrator represented herself.

So, if you haven’t yet started—or completed!—your Anna Crowley Redding collection, I urge you to do so as quick as possible. And don’t forget to mark your calendars for summer ’22 – it’s gonna be an exciting one!

Congratulations, Anna!

Ah, travel…someday, we’ll go exciting places again. And when that day comes, young children can be prepared, thanks to Deborah Underwood’s newest book!

BEARPLANE is a rhyming, reassuring, bear-pun-filled picture book that shows kids all about airports, planes, and travel. Sam Wedelich (whose new CHICKEN LITTLE: THE REAL AND TOTALLY TRUE TALE is garnering enthusiasm and praise) will illustrate for a spring 2022 release, with the wonderful Jessica Garrison of Dial editing.

Yay, Deborah! We can’t wait to see all the bear-eared little ones confidently striding through airports with this book in hand!

We’ve got an exciting new book deal to celebrate, and this one has been a LONG time in the making. It’s no secret that many writers find the seeds of their most heartfelt stories along the various roads the journeys of their lives take. And that is very much the case here. As a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, Trent spent a year living and working closely with Afghan people, and getting to know many people there personally.

One of the friends Trent made during that time was Jawad Arash, who himself lived not only through the war in Afghanistan but also during through the darkest days of Taliban domination in his country.  From this friendship was born a book idea: a story of two worlds, two viewpoints—how two very different teenagers could experience the exact same event from opposite sides of the planet without realizing the ultimate impact it would have on each of their lives, or how their lives would eventually intersect.

Friends, this collaboration is going to be a book. An amazing book, which will absolutely knock your socks off! Here is the deal announcement which went live this week:

Elise Howard and Krestyna Lypen at Algonquin have acquired, at auction, World rights to Trent Reedy and Jawad Arash’s YA novel, ENDURING FREEDOM. The dual storyline follows a young National Guard recruit living in Iowa and a Muslim teen living in Kabul under Taliban rule, as the events surrounding 9/11 unfold in two very different worlds. The deal was managed by Ammi-Joan Paquette, for publication in summer 2021.

Congratulations, Trent and Jawad!!
